I showed up at 7:30am for jury duty, waited in the big area for an hour or so, then was directed to a small, barely-air-conditioned-enough room with 20 people for another half hour or so, then was told by the judge that one of the sides in the case had an emergency and could not show up for the trial. When I got back to the main jury duty room, they said everyone in our group could go, so I was free! It was kind of nice not being stuck there, but on the other hand it would have been an interesting experience to participate in a trial like that, since I haven't yet actually served as a juror. Maybe next time.
I hate sentences like "work is really starting to ramp up". For instance, I could say that very thing right now, but would it really be true? Or would it just be the case that I feel obligated to work a bit harder right now? I think it's the latter, not the former that is closer to the truth.

Her personal pet peeve phrase:
"I didn't have a choice."

Posted by: nopey at August 22, 2007 9:07 AMNopey must be Nelson. Am I right?
Posted by: Jessica at August 23, 2007 4:27 PMWell, whoever you are Nopey, that was an astute remark. Clearly you anticipate said shout-outs and think of them as the glue between readers and Shane's blog. I couldn't agree more.
As an aside: The next time the Bartz/Bussmann/Levys reconvene, we will have to hold a funeral for the death of our beloved Horsey. Perhaps the "beloved" feeling comes solely from me, as I was not the one who allowed a third party to put Horsey in the very precarious place between car tire and metal.
