Graduated

commencement.jpgThe weekend of my sister's graduation from CalPoly San Luis Obispo has come and gone. Unfortunately, the big ceremony was dissapointing in that it did not live up to its billing as a "one-minute commencement"; nevertheless, it was interesting in that the commencement speaker was none other than the Wizard of Oz himself, Ozzie Smith. Evidently, he graduated in the class of '77 and has recently been given an 'honorary' doctorate in the humane arts. I'm not exactly sure what that means. Anyway, he gave a fairly good speech that reflected how intense he is. The rest of the big ceremony wasn't too exciting. Then the smaller ceremony was fun when Jeffra walked on the stage, since a bunch of her friends showed up that she wasn't expecting and made very loud noises when she walked across the stage. Of course there was good eating at a variety of restaurants throughout the weekend. I drove most of the way to SLO and about half of the way back. I must be a machine.

I got through chapter 1 of my quantum mechanics textbook in about an hour and a half. Now, there's only 12 chapters left. I don't think I can keep up at this depth, but the first chapter seemed important, detailing some of the experiments that led to the development of quantum mechanics.

I am still considering getting a cell phone. The main problem at this point is that to get one with my Mom's plan, I'd have to get it for a year, and I am tentatively planning to travel out of the country during the spring semester, so a cell phone would be useless then. I'm also thinking more and more that a car would be nice, but I think I can hang on until just before I'm ready to go to grad school.

I'm listening to The Moody Blue's Days of Future Passed. The more I listen to this album, the more I like it. That's a good thing.
