Post for Yesterday

Yesterday was the best day I've had in a long time. I made some sort of unexpected discovery in the data I've been analyzing at work; it appears to be real and completely unexplainable by either the post-doc or the professor I've been working with this summer. It's very unusual, but it may be something that we'll just have to save for later, because no one really has any ideas at this point.

After work, I had dinner with a friend of mine from astro, Eric Nielsen. Directly after that another friend of mine, Mike Toomim (who I know because he lives at Davis, the same co-op as me) came to pick both of us up and take us to the field where softball was to take place. There followed about one and a half hours of pure softball fun. I must have been grinning the whole time I was there. We had twenty people, which was the most we've had yet, so it was really like a true game. No subs and a full defense (4 outfielders, if you're keeping track). Hopefully the same thing will happen next week.

After dinner came poker. I played with the usual crowd, Jeremy, Josh, Chris, and Manuel. The bonus was that Matt Pendleton was in town, so he played with us last night too (he played softball too, which was also nice). I played from about 9:30pm to 2:30am, and finished up $4 from where I started. It was a bit of a roller coaster night, but it ended well for me.

All in all the day could not have gone better for me.

If there had been flying cars involved, wouldn't the day have been better?

Potentially. Actually, at work we figured that some form of UFO would have to be 20m in diameter at an altitude of 1km, which is about the height in the atmosphere where we are looking. So who knows, maybe flying cars were involved...
